WordPress is an open source blogging platform. Open source because you can download it with it’s source code as well. It can also be used as a content management system, a way of building contents of a website since WordPress gives the users the capabilities to create pages and install plugins.

WordPress has also a management tool for users. By default, there are 6 user roles in WordPress which are divided into two categories, Administrator and User role. Administrator, Manager, Editor falls under the Administrator role while Author, Contributor, and Subscriber are on the User Role.
The main feature of WordPress is post since it makes up blogging. These are updates done by the user which can be organized into categories. In creating a new post, WordPress utilizes the visual editor TinyMCE for WYSIWYG making user create styles on their posts even without any knowledge on HTML.
WordPress has the flexibility to extend its features. Most of them are free to download at the WordPress website.
Users may also download themes and customize them as well. Most of them can also be download at the site while others, with advance features can be purchased.

WordPress can either be used on their hosted site, WordPress.com or can be downloaded and installed on a server from WordPress.org. This site utilizes the downloadable version of WordPress.
